Lit Fest 2022

New Kids on the Books handed out hundreds of free books to children at our Kid Lit Fest at Joyner Park. We were thankful to be joined by many volunteers who ran activity stations as well as NC Arts in Action, PBS NC and Rootle Ambassador Lisa Genschel, Youth Poet Alaini Rouse, Saddle Up and Read, Kids Yoga and more…

Lit Fest Authors & Apps was a huge success, connecting 13 fabulous writers and many readers. The event–which featured the raffle of a limited edition, signed copy of Paul McCartney’s The Lyrics– raised nearly $4,000 for New Kids on the Books.

Join Page 158 Books to celebrate reading, spread literacy awareness and raise funds for non-profit New Kids on the Books. 

The day starts with Kid Lit at Joyner Park from 10 am to noon. This FREE event features: 

  • Feeling Faces Group Activity PBS Block Party
  • Youth Poet – Alaini Rouse
  • Yoga for Kids
  • NC Arts in Action – L.E.A.P. – Dancing
  • Saddle Up & Read – Gooch & Man Man
  • Wake County Public Library – Wake Forest Branch
  • Book Giveaway – each child leaves with a new book!
  • Wish Tree Center – based on Katherine Applegate’s book Wish Tree
  • Community Poem creation
  • Age-appropriate activity stations (Watch, Play, Explore & Share)
  • Raffle entry – PBS KIDS Playtime Tablet

The day continues with Authors & Apps at Norse Brewing Company from 7pm-9pm. Admission tickets are $5 per person and include a free Page 158 tote, appetizers and a discount on any books purchased at the event. 

The event will feature several authors–including Donna Everhart, John Pavlovitz, Heather Bell Adams, Camille DiMaio, Scott Gates, Leah Weiss, Michael Elliot, Barbara Claypole White, Alissa Miles, Elaine Neil Orr, Therese Anne Fowler, John Kessel, Caitlin Hamilton Summie and Diane Chamberlain! We will have giveaways via trivia questions about the authors.

To raise funds for NKOTB there will be amazing raffles of items including: 

  • A signed Hurricanes hockey stick and game tickets
  • $100 Gift Card to Page 158 books and a bag of books
  • Gift Baskets and more
  • As well as our raffle of the signed, first edition copy of Paul McCartney’s The Lyrics.
